At times, most of us have struggled with our writing. Sometimes we’re working through a story problem, but sometimes it’s an emotional or spiritual matter. Recently I allowed someone’s words to discourage me, and I could not write for a while. Thank you for the encouragement some of you offered. One day, the Lord sent me these verses.
Romans 11:29 For God’s gifts and his call are irrevocable.
Romans 8:28 And we know that God causes everything to work together for the good of those who love God and are called according to his purpose for them.
When I read Romans 11:29 in the course of my daily Bible reading, the words jumped out to me. He called me to write. He gifted me with a certain talent to write, and He shut off all other paths to use that talent. He opened a door when I was ready to quit. And when I was discouraged, He showed me a verse to soothe my soul. Despite discouragement, His call is irrevocable. Romans 8:28 reminded me that even a negative experience can lead to growth.
Lord, you have given each of us specific gifts to be used for your glory. You have also promised to be with us and strengthen us. When difficult circumstances make us doubt our calling or when we feel alone, please remind us of those times when You made clear to us that You were calling us to write words of faith and light. Words that would point others to You.
The world can discourage us. Even worse, when fellow Christians discourage us. Remind us that we work to please You and glorify Your name.
Please go with us this week. We love you, Father.
In the name of Jesus your Son,
Amen
May you have a blessed day.
Inspired by the Bible story of Elijah raising the widow’s son from the dead, author Dana McNeely wondered what became of the boy. She began research for her novel, “Rain,” which tells the story of the three-and-a-half-year drought from his perspective. No stranger to drought, Dana lives in an Arizona oasis with her hubby the constant gardener, two good dogs, an antisocial cat, and migrating butterflies.
In 2021 RAIN became a finalist in The Christy Award (use the registered mark) and was also a finalist in the 2022 ACFW Carol Award® and was also a finalist in the 2022 ACFW Carol Award.
WHIRLWIND, the second novel in the “Whispers on the Wind” series, tells the story of a king’s downfall and a love that transcends war.
